GREENWOOD – Lander athletics director Jeff May announced today (Thursday) that Armstrong Atlantic State University’s Jeff Burkhamer was selected to be the Bearcats’ new head men’s basketball coach.

Connecticut coach Jim Calhoun said he and the university are looking into a Yahoo! Sports report claiming the school broke NCAA rules during the recruitment of former basketball player Nate Miles, but added Miles is not at UConn and his team remains focused on the NCAA tournament.

University of Minnesota basketball head coach Tubby Smith did not use the possibility of leaving to renegotiate for more money. But administrators did promise a commitment to a practice facility after the first phase of fundraising for the football stadium.
